Liz O'Hara, retiring SILC Board President, was presented with the Iowa SILC 2007 Outstanding Leadership Award at the June 7th Board Meeting. Liz has been a wonderful advocate for the Independent Living Movement for a great many years, initially becoming involved in IL with her sister at Berkley when Ed Roberts and others were beginning the movement. Liz is incredibly knowledgeable about the long-term care system in Iowa, and has been actively involved in trying to change the focus of Iowa's long-term care system from an institutional bias to one that promotes community-based services, supports, and independence.
